Stock Maintenance - Setting Up Subscription Products
Subscription products are set up and
maintained as any other non-subscription products using the
Maintain Stock Item function. In the
case of a subscription product, the following steps are also
required.
-
Complete the four Special Subscription
Product questions on the Miscellaneous Tab of the Maintain Stock
Item function.
-
Establish and maintain a high inventory
figure to avoid back orders. Normally, subscription products are
not "purchased" from suppliers. For this reason, it is best to
maintain some arbitrarily high inventory count for subscription
type products. Keeping this number high prevents back orders from
occurring. When setting up a new subscription product, enter a high
starting inventory number in the UNITS IN STOCK field of the
General Information Tab of the Maintain
Stock Item function. To maintain a high inventory number, use the
Adjust Inventory for A Stock Item
function.
-
To avoid being prompted to purchase a
subscription item in the Purchasing function, it is also best to
establish a -1 figure for the REORDER WHEN STOCK IS AT OR BELOW
field on the Suppliers Tab of the Maintain Stock Item
function.
Single Issue Stock Item
If you are setting up a special stock
item to handle subscription cancellations, do not set
it up as above. Simply create an ordinary "Service Type" stock item
and enter the appropriate selling price and buying price
information. Also, enter a high number (9999) for starting
inventory to avoid backorders.
