Rename / Merge Stock Number
General Information
Periodically you may decide that you want to change the stock
item number for an item or multiple items after you set them up in
the Maintain Stock
Item function. This screen enables you to rename a stock item
or merge them into one single SKU quickly and easily. Note: Renaming stock numbers changes
all the historical information for the old stock number to the new
stock number.
Important: Renaming /
Merging Stock Items, make note of the following:
-
Breakout or Composite Items- When merging kits or
component items of a kit, review the kits that they belong to in
order to avoid creating duplicate components.
Remove any possible duplicates.
-
Items with Selling Tools- When merging items that contain
selling tools, review all selling tools within both items to ensure
that the SKU's in the selling tools do not belong to either item
being merged.
Remove any selling tools that contain
conflicting SKU's.
-
Items with Serial Numbers- Merging items that have serial
numbers will merge both sets of serial numbers, possibly causing
duplicates. Before merging, one set of serial numbers should be
removed or limited to avoid existing numbers.
-
Web Auction Management Module Users- When renaming a SKU, the
SKU must be manually changed in your auction software to match the
changes in M.O.M.
-
eCommerce Management Module Users- When renaming a SKU, the
SKU's created specifically for your eCommerce channel (Amazon SKU,
Miva SKU, etc.) will need to be renamed manually if you wish to
match the changes in M.O.M.
-
Advanced Inventory Module Users- The Product's Purchasing
Forecast table must be recreated to reflect the SKU changes and
avoid duplicate item listings.
How to Use the Screen
-
Enter or lookup the CURRENT STOCK NUMBER to be changed.
-
Enter the CHANGE TO #., the new stock number for renaming or the
existing stock number for merging. Note: Merging stock numbers will
cause the inventory of both stock numbers to be merged as

size/color code to change just one variation. If you leave the WITH
SIZE/COLOR
blank on an item with size/color
variations, only the first part (the first 10 characters/numbers)
of the stock code for those variations will be changed, leaving
each of the size/color variation codes (the remaining 10
characters/numbers) unchanged.
-
Select the ADD button to add the stock number to the list of
codes to be changed.
-
Repeat steps 1-4 for all other codes to be changed.
-
To remove a code from the list, select the REMOVE button.
-
When all codes have been
entered, select the PROCESS button to change the old stock codes to
the new stock codes.
