Assemble Kits

Products Menu > Receiving & Inventory > Assemble Kits

General Information

If you have set up any composite items as "Kit must be assembled using Assemble Kits function", you must use this function whenever the kit items start to back order at order entry. Running this function assembles composite items from their components. You can also use the function to "disassemble" previously assembled kits.

How to Use the Screen

The screen uses the standard Microsoft "tree" type display. Composite items are shown at two levels. The higher level folders represents the bin/warehouse and all orders that require assembly of that item. If there are currently back orders for the item, the bin level folder can be opened to show each individual order for the item. You can assemble kits working at either level.

Hint: As a business practice, before or immediately after using this function, the physical inventory for the composing items should be picked and removed from the shelves and assembled or grouped to correspond to the movement of inventory made using this function.

Note: If you are using the Advanced Warehouse Module to manage multiple warehouses, the same kit item may be displayed more than once in the list if the Warehouse dropdown menu shows "All The Warehouses", since that item may require assembly at more than one warehouse location. The possible units to assemble in each case is only based on available components at each warehouse location. M.O.M. does not cross warehouses when assembling kits.  Use the Warehouse dropdown menu to display only the items to be assembled in the warehouse chosen.  Also, the list displayed can be sorted by Stock Number.

Assemble Kits Criteria

After making the selection for WAREHOUSE, there are further criteria available for selection in the ASSEMBLE KITS dropdown menu:

  1. All Kits Setup For Assembly - This selection will display all kits that have been set up requiring the Assemble Kits function in the Composite tab of the Stock Item setup screen..

  2. All Kits That Need To Be Assembled - Will only display kits that are needed to fulfill orders. It will not   display kits that need to be assembled to meet the low level established for them.

  3. All Kits That Can Be Assembled -   Shows all kits that have the necessary components with which to assemble the kits.

  4. Kits That Cannot Be Assembled -   Will display all kits that cannot be assembled because one or more components are back-ordered or do not have the necessary number of units to build a single kit.

Assembling Kits for all Orders
  1. Optionally, use the WAREHOUSE field to filter for a particular warehouse for items to be assembled.

  2. Optionally, use the ASSEMBLE KITS field to filter for All Kits Setup For Assembly, All Kits That Need To Be Assembled, All Kits That Can Be Assembled, or All Kits That Cannot Be Assembled.

  3. Working at the bin level, select the composite item in the list to assemble or pre-assemble kits for all orders. Pre-assembly means that you are making up more kits than you actually need to fill the current back orders.

  4. Optionally, change the UNITS TO ASSEMBLE field to a different amount than the one suggested. The field always defaults to the maximum number of kits that can be assembled based on the availability of the composing items. Hint: You can disassemble kits by entering a negative value in the Units to Assemble field.

  5. Select the ASSEMBLE button to assemble the kits, taking the inventory from the composing items in the specified quantities and "creating" inventory for the composite item. The Units Currently Assembled count is updated accordingly.

  6. Repeat steps 1-3 for each kit requiring assembly in the list.

  7. Select the CLOSE button to exit. M.O.M. reminds you to run the Process Updates to Inventory function to update the inventory counts with the new product received.

Assembling Kits on an Order-by-Order Basis
  1. Working at the bin level, select an item in the list.

  2. "Open" the folder at the bin level   to display the individual back orders for the item. If there are no current back orders, the bin level folder cannot be opened.   The screen uses the standard Microsoft "tree" type display with folders. Folders with content can be opened and/or closed by clicking on the + or - symbol to the left of the folder.

  3. Select the first order in the list for assembly.

  4. Press the ASSEMBLE button.

  5. The order is removed from the list.

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each order for the item.

  7. Select the CLOSE button to exit. M.O.M. reminds you to run the Process Updates to Inventory function to update the inventory counts with the new product received.

Kit Assembly Reports

Before assembling kits, pressing the PRINT button will allow printing or viewing of the following report:

  • Kit Setup For Assemble Report - reports the stock item, the quantity of kits needing assembly, the warehouse and order kits must be assembled for.

If any kits have been assembled, pressing the PRINT button, will display a report selection to be printed.  The two reports that can be printed are:

  1. Assembled Kits Report - reports the stock item, quantity of kits assembled for it and the warehouse.

  2. Kit Setup For Assemble Report - reports the stock item, the quantity of kits needing assembly, the warehouse and order kits must be assembled for.
