Lookup Examples
The Lookup Screen is one of the most useful and powerful tools in
Mail Order Manager. It can be used to find any one of the
maintainable objects in the system (Source Key, Stock Item, User,
Catalog Code, etc.) using virtually any piece of information about
that object.
The top line of fields on the screen (LOOKUP ON, CONDITION, and
VALUE) work together to express a "formula" for the search. Here
are two examples to illustrate the way that you might use these
fields to find an advertising source key and stock item.
Lookup for a Source Code
Let's say that we need to change the circulation on a mailing that
we did in December 1994. We don't remember the source key code, but
we do know that the description of the source contained the word
"December." Here's how the three fields would be used for the
lookup.
LOOKUP ON - we would select AD DESCRIPTION, because we're basing
the lookup on the description of the source.
CONDITION - we would select CONTAINS, because we're going to base
our lookup on the fact that the description contains the word
"December."
VALUE - we would enter the word "december" and press ENTER to find
the Source Code.
Lookup for a Stock Item
A
supplier of ours, the American Exercise Company (AEC), has gone out
of business. We buy approximately a dozen items from them, but
we're not sure what they are. We're going to have change the
supplier code for each item. Here's how the three fields would be
used for the lookup to find the items for the supplier.
LOOKUP ON - we would select CURRENT DISTRIBUTOR, because we're
basing the lookup on the supplier of the items.
CONDITION - we would select EQUALS, because we're going to base our
lookup on the supplier code for American Exercise Company.
VALUE - enter AEC, the supplier code for American Exercise
Company.
